Re: Door Latch Lubrication

Wow. Good luck. I am about to go over 317k on my five hundred. I bought my mom a 2003 taurus Vulcan in 2003. Still has it and it runs great. Has a leaky timing cover though. Got the money approved for the repair. 8) You might want to have someone look at that timing cover; those leaks are only goin...

Re: Door Latch Lubrication

That's good to know; I'll try that after it comes back from getting the engine rebuilt. Her cylinder heads are warped from overheating; the water pump failed, the engine overheated in the -30 windchill yesterday, and the heads are egg-shaped now, so they have to be replaced. And so does the water pu...

Re: Knocking under acceleration

My 2000 Flex Fuel Taurus does the same thing; I just tune it out, since I know it has a vacuum leak and it runs fine other than the sound. Plus, if it was a horrible sign of impending disaster, somebody would've said something to me after the many oil changes, tire replacements and other things I've...

Door Latch Lubrication

So, my 2000 Taurus with 142k miles decided she doesn't like to keep her front doors shut when it's below 20 or so degrees. I know after almost 20 years, the "lube" in the door latch's internal mechanism is probably total crap by now, if it's even still there. :? After she warms up, it's fine, but it...

Re: What is mounted to the underside of the trunk

That's your vapor canister. It's part of your evaporative emission control system.

From the Haynes Repair Manual: "The evaporative emission control system traps and holds fuel vapors that would otherwise escape to the atmosphere during normal operation" (unless it's not working, of course).

They were used on the Taurus/Sable from 1994 to 2007.

Re: Recommended oil weight 2007 Taurus plus P0193 code

As far as oil capacity, the owner's manual says 4.5 quarts for the Vulcan, 5.5 for the Duratec. The recommended weight for your oil with be on the engine somewhere (usually the oil fill cap). As for error code P0193... that's a engine control code. High circuit input on the injector pressure sensor....

Re: how to program a new dash cluster to my 06 taurus?

If you're refering to the instrument cluster, you don't "program" it. It's just gauges hooked to the wiring harness for the sensors. Plug it in and go; just make sure you make note of the original mileage before you swap them out.

Re: Changing Brake Lights 2011 Taurus

I noticed that the 2011 Taurus SEL does not give a warning when your brake lights are out. I noticed mine by chance following the car over to the dealer for a flush. For those that are handy, it's super easy to change the lamps, but you need an 11mm deep socket. I posted a video for those that are ...

Re: 2004 Taurus runs rough when taking off

Does it get better once the engine warms up, or is it constant? If it's constant, it could be a vacuum leak. If it goes away when your engine warms up, you probably have a bad MAF sensor.

Re: 2005 Taurus SE - Lots of Problems! Please Help!

On both the Vulcan and Duratec engines, there's a timing chain running from crankshaft to camshaft, and unless you're a qualified mechanic with access to an extensive list of tools, I'd have a repair shop replace/service this. My first suggestion would be to check for any trouble codes; that'll give...

Re: 2004 Taurus 3.0 Vulcan Ehgine noise Houdini act

You say "mid-grade gas"? As in "higher than 87 octane"? There's your problem; your car is running on gas it isn't meant to be using. Once the cylinder heads warm up, it may seem fine, but you're building gunk on your spark plugs and injectors running higher octane fuels. I suggest pulling out and ch...
