Re: 2013 Police Interceptor questions
I don't have ForScan, so I can't say for sure they can be disable. In theory, even if you turn off all the nanny stuff, I would think this would also disable the RDU unit which would make the car essentially a FWD car.

Re: 2013 Police Interceptor questions
To answer 2b, the AWD system is FWD based. It will act as a FWD vehicle till a situation occurs that require more or less traction and the rear differential will engage. It will also use brake torque vectoring to help in certain instances. Frankly, I think a FWD/AWD setup is more about fuel savings ...

Prices were going to creep up when there are videos on Youtube cropping up touting the FPIS/FPIU are one of the best dollar to performance buy.

Re: PTU Drain and Fill.
As mentioned above, regarding the vent tube modification, you can run a search on the ford explorer forums regarding that mod. Also, there is a couple of youtubers showing the process. I bought a 5/15" connector with a clear 5/16" tube to help the with the refilling process. When you begin pushing t...

Looking at used for sale interceptor sedans, you can see they don't have liners.

I guess you can check the oil dipstick to see if the oil is still dark. Check the PVC to make sure it isn't gunked up. Maybe moving up to premium gas and see what happens.

Re: Used an oil additive, engine sounds rougher at 1200-2k rpm
Anytime I do something with my PIS that affects the engine mechanically and electronically, I would disconnect the battery for a few minutes. For some reason, my PIS is ultra picky on changes and disconnecting the battery resolves my issues.

Re: gas smell inside the car with a full tank
TSB 13S04 affected the 2013 models. However, my model year 2014 maintenance record showed the fuel module was replaced under warranty a few years after service.

Re: Emissions issues.
If you only replaced one of the catalytic converter, chances are the other one is bad. There are two total. Normally when I replaced the catalytic converters I replace the up and downstream O2 sensors. For the FPIS, the upstream O2's are the same length. However, the downstream ones are different le...

Re: So these cars are not called Taurus anymore?
Ford Police Interceptor Sedan (or "Utility" for the Explorer). If you run their VIN numbers it will also state that it is a: Ford Police Interceptor <insert what it is here>. Underneath of the name is a Taurus/Explorer given options and parts that can be also found in other Ford models. Yes, some pa...

Re: Interesting article from 2013 about PI AWD
Given that the PI uses "wet" clutches, how would one change out the fluid in that RDU? I have a feeling that it's sealed and no way to access that section of the RDU. I'm thinking that after a certain period time, an owner needs to change out the entire since the clutches will wear out eventually?
