Re: What's the best way to make a black car shine?

Andy-Does this shine stay on the car for awhile or does it fade in a day or two? Can you only order this online? :? Is that all you do is wash the car and apply this wet paint glaze? (I couldn't get the video to play on their website) I think I might give this a try!!! :D Definitely stays on the ca...

Re: What's the best way to make a black car shine?

Over on the driveaccord.net forum, one of the detailing-fanatic guys pointed me to this stuff at http://www.wetpaintglaze.com/ . I've used this stuff on dark cars and light cars, and it's simply amazing as to how it makes the car shine and leaves little to no residue. To me, having owned several bla...

Re: Pine pitch on paint

I replied to Jeff's original post on the Freestyle forum, and here's my reply to his update above. I think the key here is that "goof-off" is the magic elixir... 8) Were you able to find "Goof-off"? It's different than "goo gone". I had run out of my goof-off at home and went to a local store and fo...

Re: Tranny flush or fluid change or nothing - 87k miles

So I did some more poking under the Tribute today, and also some more research on the tranny in the vehicle - the Ford CD4E. - Internal filter can only be accessed by tearing the tranny case open, as there is no pan to drop. Recommendation on many sites is replace only when you've got it apart - Sim...

Re: Tranny flush or fluid change or nothing - 87k miles

Thanks, everyone, for the insights here. And as you can see, there are differeing opinions on this. The reason I posted it here is that this is a Ford 4-speed with the DuraTec 3.0L motor - pretty standard Ford stuff such as on the twin to the Tribute - the Ford Escape. That being said, I don't think...

Tranny flush or fluid change or nothing - 87k miles

Hi there. Just bought a used car for my son to use - 04 Mazda Tribute (aka Ford Escape) with the 3.0L v6 and 4-speed auto tranny. Overall the car seems to have been well maintained - carfax has lots of history, single owner, great condition overall. One thing I don't know is whether the tranny was e...

Re: cabin air filter

Did they ever integrate a CAF into the 08/09 Taurus/Sable? I know that for 05-07 it's not there - although if you look at the plastic fan housing you can see something that looks like a placeholder for a future CAF location. Someone in (I think) the myfordfreestyle forum actually cut the opening and...

Re: Rear inner tread wear

we had similar wear on the Freestyle on the factory P6's. When I replaced the tires with the Michelin Primacy MXV4's, I also had the alignment checked. It was almost perfect (slight LR toe adjustment required). After running the Michelin's for about 15k miles they're perfect on all corners with regu...

Re: 2005 Montego....Dash Clock Stopped Working

Funny because Claude had bought that clock to put in his SEL and also decided not to use it. Clock must be jinxed! Jinxed? Nah. Just living an interesting multi-national life! Anybody need the woodgrain panel that covers the clock from a 500? That came with the "package" from Claude but doesn...

Re: 2005 Montego....Dash Clock Stopped Working

Thank you for the tips........The price sounds good, but I'd prefer the black face. If I get chance, I'd like to look at my clock & see if it is possible to switch the face on the clock. If so, I might take you up on the offer! Thanks! So I just looked at the clock I had here by my desk (a whole lo...

Re: 2008 Taurus FWD Swap to AWD?

After looking at how the TC system is integrated with the AWD system, and the sheer cost and calibration of the AWD control module, I'd find just THAT aspect alone scary enough to make me never consider a swap. It's a whole lot more than just the driveline - although that's not trivial. Not only do ...

Re: 2005 Montego....Dash Clock Stopped Working

The clock is a piece of cake to get to. The whole "fake wood" trim piece that spans the dash just unclips - just be careful at the cluster-end of the trim piece as it fits underneath the cluster-end - you'll need to gently pop that one up to get the clock-resident piece out. Once you have that piece...

Re: steering stops

Mine never had a rubber coating on it - always been metal surface on the control arm and the metal stop bracket. I use universal joint grease at each oil change - and it stays quiet as a mouse till the next change, even through the NH winter with all sorts of salt/sand getting kicked up. The key is ...

Re: Windshield/windshieldwiper problems on 09 taurus

Thanks for your reply. The wiper arms have been replaced without any success at all. The engineer from Ford, Jim Kelly looked it over and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I'm not sure if there is some type of template that can check the smoothness or continuity of the windsheild or not but to the n...

Re: Windshield/windshieldwiper problems on 09 taurus

The streaking is a smearing of rain across the windsheild. It is most apparent from the blade attachment point on the wiper arm to the top of the blade. The problem looks as if the blades are a few years old or that the blades are not making contact with the windsheild. The blades leave dozens of f...

Re: Looking for more power in my Montego

The only thing I'm considering for my Montego is perhaps a lip spoiler - but even that I'm up in the air about. The combo of the HID headlights, the LED tails and the decent-looking grill make me just not wanna touch the cosmetics of this vehicle. 8) In terms of city MPG - if I stay stop-and-go driv...

Re: Windshield/windshieldwiper problems on 09 taurus

Can you explain more on what you mean by streaking? I've got both a Freestyle and Montego, and have replaced the OEM blades about every 9 months just as a matter of course, and don't "think" I notice any streaking per-se. If you could give a description of what effect you're seeing that'd be great. ...

Re: Gauge Cluster Swap

Is it possible to swap in a Limited gauge cluster into an SEL? Looks like the wiring/connector is the same? I just like the white face better, especially the fact that the gauges are still readable in sun glare. Thx! I drive my Montego with the black-face gauges, and then my wife's Freestyle with t...

Re: Looking for more power in my Montego

I tried running a K&N drop-in in both the Montego and Freestyle a while back - did nothing at all, and actually I noticed the car ran BETTER with the stock paper filter - go figure. So if you want a K&N to try cheaper than a new one let me know - I have two. Personally, if you want the Montego to ha...
