Re: 400 HP...

That's a great engine. I just wonder if a twin turbo has the durability to handle truck duties. Seems like an awful lot of heat for towing / plowing.

Five Hundred Owners - How many miles?

Just turned 70K on my '06 Five Hundred and am hoping to keep until at least 150K. Has anyone hit 150K yet without any major repairs? This seems like a pretty solid car and haven't heard of any problems with the 3.0 duratec. I can put up with installing new rear brakes on every 20K or wheel bearings ...

Re: Texting Can Be Deadly

Heads up for anyone in Michigan as of July 1st you can get a ticket for texting while driving. Fortunately, masturbating while driving is perfectly legal (I think).

Re: Worst motor ever!!!

Forddieseltech's list is pretty complete although you can't overemphasize the gm 350 diesel, gm 3.4 liter, and ford/navistar 6.0 diesel. I would add vw/Audi 1.8l turbo.

On a positive note the best diesel ever is the Detroit 6-71

Re: 05 Repairs

I've replaced the fronts once on my 500 and did not bleed the brakes (just pushed back the piston with a c-clamp and block of wood). To be honest, I never understood why the brakes need to be bled unless there is air in the line or replacing fluid. I believe the service manual indicates that you nee...

Re: 06 Montego Surging/Climate control going crazy/lightsfli

I only wished Ford would have included a voltmeter as one of the gauges on the instrument panel cluster. I never understood why it seems to be the norm to include an engine temperature gauge but not an oil pressure or voltmeter gauge.

Re: CVT Tranny

Stupid question- But can they just put in a rebuild 6 speed in lieu of cvt? I' assuming you have awd and not sure what issue that brings into the equation. Even if you don't plan to keep it, I'm just wondering if you would take less of a loss that way.

Re: Replaced rear brakes

I put on a set of ATE ceramics and Centric rotors last fall about 15,000 miles ago (front and rears) and it stops great. But I have been noticing quite a bit of dust on the wheels. I have a hellish commute-70 mile drive each day with at least 3-4 hard stops from 60+ MPH each day. The dust does comes...

Re: 2010 Taurus Roof awarness

I've noticed the hood of my 500 buckles at high speeds (80mph or faster). It's partially done that way to reduce weight but more importantly to save $. I used to work at a Chrysler stamping plant and it's amazing how much effort goes into reducing material cost (such as using thinner panels, weaker ...

Re: Ford Said to Plan End of Forgotten Mercury After 7 Decad

It makes sense as I've never considered Mercury anytime I've bought a new car. It does bring complications though with what to do with Lincoln (another irrelevant brand). Do you just combine Lincoln and Ford into one store? Without the volume of Mercury, no dealer could survive on just Lincoln. If i...

Re: Towing with five hundred

Normally, I wouldn't think the extra 200lbs would make that big of a difference. But I would be scared to try and pull a boat out of the water with a CVT. Starting from a standstill on an incline would put a lot of stress and heat on the tranny. Especially if it is a steep boat launch.

Re: Where the heck do you jack this thing by??

I hate political correctness. I view the meaning of the "n" word as more of an attitude than a race (similar to the equivalent to white trash, red-neck, thug). I'm no racist, have many black friends, even voted for Obama. If there is another word the differentiates good black people from the other e...

'06 500: 0 to 20 MPH acceleration with CVT

Does anyone know why these cars are so slow when accelerating off the line? I'm just wondering if the electronics were engineered to delay opening up the throttle (to put less pressure on the CVT). I would think a CVT set-up right would tear off the line with ultra-low gearing. Do the 500's with the...

So by using the 2X6s, I'm assuming you just follow the directional tire rotation pattern (i.e. no crossing)?

Re: has anybody replaced the rear wheel bearings on a 05 500

There's a few posts about this somewhere on here. If I remember correctly you'll need a 32mm socket for the hub nut and a 15mm for the four bolts that screw into the back of the bearing assembly. Overall, it wasn't that bad. The most difficult part for me was removing the 15mm bolts. There's not muc...

Re: VW Phaeton

I worked at VW of America when the Phaeton was launched. Basically, Piech wanted a car that would compete with the Mercedes S-class and as a sportier brand, Audi has always competed more directly with BMW. Everyone knew that it was going to be a flop, but this was Piech's baby and anybody who wanted...

Re: Where the heck do you jack this thing by??

GI Joe, take it to Belle Tire. It will be the best $15 you've ever spent. The one by my house does it for free (sometimes) to make goodwill with potential customers when the time comes to replace them. Yeah, I've done the routine of jacking the car up on stands. Not worth the hassle (in my opinion).
