High Mileage Reports, Add your info!

Post by ddderek » Sun May 18, 2014 8:09 am

Well our cars are at least 5 years old now, and if you are like me you have been committed to these cars because of their reliability and comfort. What I would like to know is where folks are with the mileage on their cars and how long drivers are getting out of them.

So reply with your YEAR, MODEL, and MILEAGE, I think this will be fun and informative for all of us to share. (also include if you sold it at a certain mileage because it broke down or it's age)

2005 Ford Five Hundred 99,000
(totaled by insurance company after accident in April, with no major maintenance ever needed)

2008 Mercury Sable 29,000
2008 Ford Taurus 48,000
2009 Ford Taurus 52,000

Please add your replies...

2008 Ford Taurus SEL
190,000 trouble free miles so far!

I bought the car used in 2011 with 61,000 miles on the odometer. I put a bout 50,000 miles a year on a car. This car has been wonderful and has only required standard maintenance, new brakes, and new tires. This is truly the most reliable car I have owned so far. I plan to keep it until "the tires fall off". :)

2006 Ford Taurus SEL Light Blue; 116,000 miles and on a/c compressor 4. We bought the car with 87,500 miles on it and the a/c compressor had just been replaced. We drove it another 15,000 miles, then the a/c compressor was making a grinding noise, eventually stopping. We paid $927 to have it replace. The following spring, again grinding noises, took it back and luckily it was still under warranty for the a/c unit and it was replaced free of charge. Now at 116,000 miles it's making that racket again. I'm wondering if an oem a/c compressor would work better than a rebuilt one and last another 100,000 miles. I've never had a/c problems with any other cars and have owned several Fords. Was there any recall?

2009 with a 10/08 build date. Limited AWD. 112000 miles. So far I've replaced both rear wheel hubs at 50k miles. At 100k replaced all brakes pads and rotors, spark plugs, belts, coolant. I got 80k miles out of the original Pirreli P-6's. Oil was replaced every 6500-7000miles. When it was brand new, the intrument cluster stopped working completely and was replaced never to be an issue again. I've never thought the windshield wippers did a very good job of clearing the windsheild but I've learned to live with it. Just as the weather turned cold this month I noticed a little blue smoke upon initial start up if it has been sitting for a few days. It goes away quickly and it doesn't happen again on subsequent starts during the day. thats it for now

2007 Mercury Montego, 90,000 miles.
Bought new (64 miles) with hail damage (40% discount). Still has the body dings.
-- AWD pump (Don't know if this is the correct terminology) this year
-- Heated seat not working; repaired once before.
-- Replaced brake pads two or three times
-- Oil and filter changes according to spec
-- Changed CVT fluid according to spec
-- Replaced brake light switch due to intermittent flickering
-- Keypad unlock fails intermittently (sad because I like this feature!)
-- I am suspicious that heater air routing is not working correctly. Have not pursued this.
-- Original wheels badly corroded, so
---- bought a set of dress-up wheels from a Ford owner
---- had the originals sanded (losing air) and now use them for winter only
-- Teen daughter crashed the front bumper; body shop replaced (her fault)
-- Teen daughter crashed rear bumper; body shop replaced (not her fault)
-- Wife backed other car into left rear door; body shop replaced (her fault)

Anyway, this is not concours d'elegance.
It's a nice comfortable car that handles well.
The safety features attracted me to it since I do have the two young daughters.
Fortunately they have not had any major accidents.

2008 Limited 170K miles, bought it with 60K in 2010. Seat heaters out (again), trans cooler weeping a bit, tires, brakes, swaybar links (couple of times) and regular maintenance.

Going to drive it until the wheels fall off or until the teenager (new driver) does her in!

2009 Ford Taurus 60,000

(And I have a drivers side seat heater out yet AGAIN as the previous poster also noted!)

My 2005 500 just passed 235k. Just put over $550 into it for inner tie rods, alignment and inspection. The only other big ticket items were a new alternator some time ago and a new front right halfshaft that I installed myself.

The Duratec really is a great engine. I have always used Mobil 1 oil every 5000 miles as well.

2008 SEL (FWD). Bought in Aug 2008 with 41,000 KMs (25, 000 miles). Aside from oil changes every 5000 kms (3000 miles), two sets of tires, two transmission fluid changes, front brakes and rear bakes. All was good until this January, rear caliper leaking, replaced both and had to put new pads, as the old ones had brake fluid on them. I also replace both rear wheel bearings.
Current mileage, 175, 000 kms (110, 000 miles)
My biggest complain is the transmission, i had it re-flashed in 2008 by Ford. Since 2014 to now the transmission light comes on and it won't go into the 6th gear. It has happened 3 times so. The previous two times it came off after 2 weeks. It came on again a week ago and has not come off yet.
If anyone has experience this same issue please reply with any solutions on how to fix. Most places just want to rebuild the transmission. I think its the speed sensor on the output or in input shaft. The transmission shifts fine.
Thanks for any input.

I am no trans expert, but almost everything I have read regarding trans issues involves either a bad shift solenoid, a bad sensor, or a bad valve body.

My mom's 2003 Taurus Vulcan has a chirp on the 1-2 shift and I think it is a bad 1-2 shift solenoid. Getting to the shift solenoid itself looked like a pain, but replacement of the solenoid didn't look bad at all.
