I've been wanting to figure out how to do this too. The plastic on the top of my shifter has been peeling off for a couple years now. It's not too bad yet but the annoying thing is that the plastic they used for that is fairly stiff so the edges of what remains on the shifter has actually cut my hand. Nothing major. Just a nuisance. I'll have to feel around for that screw.
I hadn't even thought about looking for a replacement. I was thinking I'd peel off that dreadful silver plastic and repaint it somehow. Hadn't quite thought out all of the details yet. $70 is not going to leave my wallet on account of this in the near future. That's for sure.Tomcat wrote:Mine cracked a few years ago as well. I have no idea how that happened. Unfortunately, I think the replacement part is around $70.
Are you talking about the "metal" part on the front side of the handle? If so, so simply pry from the top towards the front of the car slightly and then lift up on it. To remove the handle itself, there is a screw on the front side like somebody else mentioned.
