Factory Radio

Post by 10064 » Sat Aug 24, 2013 3:44 pm

My service for some reason doesn't want us to listen to the radio and has disabled it. When you push the on button the screen looks like its going to turn on but shuts down. The radio has power as you can see the time and outside temperature but that's about it. Is there some way I can override this setting or is it only done through the diagnostic port? Please advise because its pretty boring without music!

Your the first I have heard if having a radio delete option. I'd like the vin number to pull up the window sticker and as built data. My guess is it is in the as built data which could only be modified by ford technician software through the diagnostic port.

I doubt your command would appreciate anyone messing with it.

You can PM me the vin.

It's not a delete. It's still there and it worked before they installed the equipment. Of course my command wouldn't like it but its not like they pulled the fuse like they did with our Camaros in the early 90's.

Ah you didn't say it worked before. The stereo system actually contains multiple modules that talk to each other. Let me do some checking.

Try to insert a cd. The CD is the actual radio. See if that's works. You may find they actually pulled the CD unit/radio or cut power to it.

You may be in luck as far as the fuse situation goes.

The fuse for the ACM (Audio Control Module aka radio/cd player) has only one other connection and that is to the GPS module if it exists in that car.

It is very possible they just pulled this fuse. Check and see.

The fuse panel is under the dash to the left of the brake pedal.

Here is a link to the on line owners manual so you can see exactly where it is:

Thanks for the info. I will look when I get back to work. I'll just have to carry around a fuse if that's the issue. I don't want to get found out!

They will wonder why everyday your on ur knees digging under the dash. That fuse box is a pain a$# to get to. I am waiting to get done with my shift. I just pulled the 20amp fuse and it behaves exactly as you describe!

If your command doesnt like it, then dont do it.

I agree, 8-12 hours driving around with no tunes is dumb. Something needs to break the monotony of listening to the /\/\otorola.

I am not sure about the Sedan and Utility that Columbus, OH PD uses (they just started rolling some out) but in the Crown Victoria's, they did order "radio delete" and mounted the mobile radio in its place in the dash using the factory plastic piece. Made it that much harder to get tunes back. Often times, you would find an iPod or portable CD player in the door pocket...lol

I checked out the fuse then looks back on here and yes I probably did look odd all balked up under the dash. As for the fuse, it was there and complete. Must be something they have done when they moved the location of the console to put in the workstation. Oh well. I guess I'll go back to my portable radio like ghostrider mentioned as our Crown Vics also had the radio delete option.

Then I would say they clipped the power wire to the ACM (audio control module, a good test would be to see if it lets a CD go in and eject) or they removed it all together (you would feel no resistance as you slide a CD in, if you slide it in all the way it would fall into the ACM cavity).

I have a 2016 taurus police interceptor sedan and i cannot find the fuse panel for the life of me. Can someone post a picture? I pulled off the bottom panel under the steering wheel only to show a metal plate, and I pulled off the panel on the side of the dash. I also looked under the wheel by laying upside down on the seat and I gotta say, I havent seen one hint of a panel. I can only find the one under the hood. I need to pull the fuse for the radio because of problems i am having.

Okay, i am guessing no one has found this fuse panel, but I disconnected the battery and I figure, the same thing would happen if I pulled the fuse, yet it still doesn't work.

From the manual;

Passenger Compartment Fuse Panel

The fuse panel is under the instrument panel to the left of the steering wheel. You may need to remove a trim panel to access it.

On the Flex it's above the e-brake pedal. Suspect it's in the same place on the Taurus. Should be like 7 wire harnesses connecting to it.
