2013 Police Interceptor - Bad transmission - compatible?

Post by Candle226 » Fri Sep 08, 2017 5:19 pm

:D Hello Everyone,
New to the forum, hope all are well. I have a 2013 Interceptor with a bad transmission. The engine is a 3.5L Non Turbo. Could anyone tell me what other years and transmissions could I put in their? Also what changes need to be made in order to do it? Thanks in advance for any info.

Be aware that your transmission may still be covered under the factory powertrain warranty. The warranty for the police interceptors is 5 years and I think 100,000 miles. The transmission in my 2013 was making a moaning/gear-whine noise when shifting into 5th and 6th gear. I brought it to a Ford dealer and took the service manager for a test drive and demonstrated the issue. He admitted it didn't sound right, and Ford installed a new transmission at no charge. I give kudos to Ford for standing behind their police interceptor powertrains.

Surprised they didnt burn you for a Police Interceptor being in civilian hands like Ford likes to do.

When the Police are done with them they sell them all the time to civilians.

I know. I am the previous owner of 2 CVPI's (A 1997 and 2006). However, Ford likes to give the retail customers guff when it comes to the Interceptors. For example, the steel wheel and paint issues on the CVPI's. They would replace the wheels or repaint the car if it was a police fleet car. If it was owned by a civilian, forget it. The repairs come out of your pocket.

Hey Billross,
Thanks for the insight on Ford repairing the police vehicles. But, my interceptor was out of the 5 year mark. However, I found a junk yard with a transmission with 20k and I had them put it in for $1800 total. 90 day warranty on transmission and 30 day on labor. Not bad, I paid 2k for the car with 78k on it with a bad trans. Thanks for the talk guys.

Hey buddy.
I am in the same boat I got ecoboost in mine.
Transmission was slipping real bad and was in limp mode 5th gear start, pump groaning etc.
I replaced the trans with a lower mileage identical car and it ran good for a day and now it's back to doing the exact same thing. Did you have any problems with programming etc once it was installed? Me and the shop are stumped and clueless right now on what to do. It's got a p0774 code for intermittent shift selonoid but the TOM came with the new trans so it has been replaced as well. We cleared the adaptive learning as well to no avail. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Wow that's too bad... Only thing I can think of is maybe your transmission cooler and lines was full of abrasive debris from the first failed transmission and that caused problems with the second transmission?

Thanks for reply.
I flushed the lines myself at the mechanics shop.
Pretty cool guy been letting me get my hands in with the repairs. We did lots of extras. Flushed the PTU, intercooler cleaning etc.
Starting to think Ford dealer did something wrong to the ECM. But I got no ECM related codes.
One thing I left out in my post after the dealer flashed the car they did not turn dark mode off, did not turn digital speedo on off course they told me they will and charged me for it as well. Then after keeping the car for 3 days advisor told me that thier tech have spent hours playing on IDS plugged into my car and it just does not accommodate any additional features. I printed out instructions online took them with me and 15 minutes later all updates were installed and running. It was after the dealer work the transmission broke. Prior it had no limp mode and no issues minus my concern with a slight groaning at 5th and 6th gear other then that it ran great
