About to pull trigger, any areas to look out for?

Post by Timeisaflatcircle » Fri Nov 17, 2017 1:40 pm

Long time lurker, quite possibly about to pull the trigger on a 2013 Twin Turbo. 160K miles.

I want to take it to a mechanic to have them check out before buying.
Any first hand knowledge of what I need to look out for, consider?

I know the water pump is an issue, any other big pricey items to look deeper into?

Many thanks for your help!

You should look to see if the PTU has the drain plug. It was added on the 13's at some point. If it does then a drain & fill is pretty simple and you will know if the fluid has cooked or still good. As long as the fluid is good then assume the PTU is as well.

Many thanks, hopefully I can take it to a dealership to check out.

I'd check for standing water in the spare tire well in the trunk too. I know from looking at lots of Taurus PIs at auctions, a significant percentage of them have standing water in the spare tire well. If the water's been there a long time, the resulting rust issues could become a PITA. The water gets in from poorly sealed modifications when they install/remove police equipment.
