Headlight switch automatic lights upgrade PI sedan

Post by DkNgHt » Tue Nov 06, 2018 7:29 pm

My pet peeve with the PI is no automatic lights ... Any body know if upgrading the light switch would help? Would there need to be other upgrades in addition needed?

You are going to need a harness, a light sensor, and maybe a control unit. Just the switch won't get you where you want to be.

Not so fast! I may be wrong...

I just got my first PI, a 2013, and it has a sensor. I will be digging into the switch harness to see if there are extra wires, tomorrow. Does yours have this?

I got a used headlight switch that has the auto head light and I installed it. The headlights turn off and on with the car, but do not turn off when the sun is out. I'm not sure what else is needed. My vehicle does have the sensor in the middle of the windshield and it is plugged in. Is this the case with anyone else?

In looking for headlight wiring diagrams, I discovered an auto headlamp relay, and a symptom of a bad(missing?) one is the lights not shutting off in daylight.

you may want to search the forscan threads - auto headlights may be a software setting that needs to be activated/deactivated. No personal experience; just an observation.

Subscribed..

I want to do this too. Every one of my sensors I've colored with a Sharpie so the lights only turn off if it's bright enough to wear sunglasses. No sun = lights on.

If I can't make this work, I'll just put a relay in the main wire to the headlight switch triggered by the key so I can just leave the switch on all the time, it will automatically go off when the key is off.

I'm so tired of silver and gray cars with no lights before dawn, after dark, in the fog, rain or snow, etc... that I'm beginning to become an advocate for a "lights always on" law. Don't know who buys those colors, but it's 7 to 1, I've been keeping track..

Right now if you buy a headlight switch with auto headlights, the headlights will turn on and off with the car in auto mode, but not turn off with the sun out. I’m hoping someone has been able to make the auto headlights fully working though.

Cool. That’s a lot closer to auto and easier than what I was going to do.

If it’s programming, crownedking should know how to do it.

should just need the switch, wiring seems to be in place, see picture. all models have the light sensor and when the DRL feature is enabled in forscan it works great.

has anyone tried with DRL enabled?

DON'T buy from paid PI mod sites, stay away from dealer programming! message me for help or questions.

Anyone interested in a non-auto option headlight switch? Otherwise I'm throwing it away.

Yeah, I searched the webz and youtubez too.

Take the knee panel off
Reach up behind the switch (small hands help). I had a remote start box in the way also.
Feel for the three larger fingers on the larger soft bezel surrounding the switch.
You can squeeze two of them at a time and push the bezel out a little, then get the third last one and it all comes out.
From there, you can get to the three fingers that hold the switch in that bezel.

That's how I did it, if there's an easier way, let us know.

Hmmm...

I have also found this...

AdvanceTrac Control & AutoLamp Delay-13-18 IPC 720-01-03 XXXX-XX*X-ZZ 0 = Disabled, 8= AdvanceTrac, 1 = AutoLamp, 9 = AdvanceTrac w/ AutoLamp

Thinking this adds them to the settings menu...

I'm confused did anyone get the sensor to work?
