radio upgrade

Post by nate12387 » Tue Nov 27, 2018 8:32 pm

Has anyone had any experience with this radio? It is the only option that I can personally find for a 2016 ford police/taurus.

I appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Nathan

I have this same unit. A review is linked in this post...

They are all made by the same place, but there are multiple resellers. You may have better luck with a U.S. seller in getting firmware updates. I asked my seller (China) about an update to fix the temp display and have not heard anything back other than I will get it when it comes out. When I bought mine from here http://www.carnaviplayer.com/aftermarke ... 2017-p-894 it was the cheapest I could find at the time. I have put my dash back together, but trimmed the cover to fit and removed the plate for the power ports and humidity sensor. Currently they are just dangling out of the opening. Eventually, I will get something made up to fill it in. After you read the review, I'll be happy to answer any questions you have that aren't covered. I also had to trim part of the tabs on the unit off to get the PI trim to fit. I'm guessing it would not be a problem with a civilian cover...

Also, there are forums for those units at https://www.roadnav.com/, and mod developers also. I have purchased a Kotix ROM, but not installed it yet.

Thanks for the info. The only thing now that concerns me is that the 12v outlets and trunk release are not connected. Does that piece not fit with the aftermarket radio installed?

Thanks,

Nathan

You have a couple options. You can either use a civilian cover or a PI cover. The civilian cover should fit with no issues, including 12v outlets and trunk button. Of course, you'll need the rest of the console that goes with it. PI cover will require some trimming/fab for the 12v outlets and humidity sensor. The aftermarket unit has a different profile than the PI cover. Also, the mounting clips are 90 degrees off. I'm guessing that it lines up with a civilian cover/console. When the profile of the PI cover starts to turn down towards the floor, the aftermarket stereo maintains that profile for another inch or so.
Compare these and you will see what I am talking about... Look at the angle at the 12v panel.

Here is the link to my post on the review of it. The link inside the link in my previous post is broken.
