Cold Air Intake in PI?

Post by PFFCO » Thu Dec 13, 2018 2:02 pm

Has anyone installed a CAI into their PI? I was looking on K&N, but they say it won't fit, although they have the one for the SHO. I know there are many brands to look at, I'm curious if anyone has installed one.

Thanks.

K&N part number 77-2576KTK is what you want for a non-turbo 3.5/3.7 liter. Ecoboost would take the SHO one.

I am about to buy one myself. I will be using the Torque app with an OBD transceiver as my dyno to document if any changes I make are beneficial.

P.s. If a website says it won't fit your interceptor, then try a regular Taurus instead, like an SE or something, a lot of sites are prejudicial to our rides.

I forgot to mention it was the 3.5L ecoboost turbo model. I wasn't sure if the layout was different under the hood of an SHO vs. PI. I'll be curious how well it works vs. the stock one. I did see a vent from right near the hood too, like a ram air.

The factory air box is supposedly colder and there are free flowing oil less flat panel filters from vendors like AFE a whole lot cheaper. But it has no bling and is quieter :)

Everywhere I Forum K&N has a reputation for oiling the air flow sensor and creating off kilter readings.

http://www.unleashedtuning.com/ has everything you could want for tuning as well as https://www.livernoismotorsports.com/

Both are heavily into the SHO and F150 tuning.

Also, there is nothing wrong with K&N, the stories of oil in the intake are because of user error in oiling the screen. That being said, I always run an AEM dryflow in my cars.

Not a Taurus but it applies - https://youtu.be/NJKlb61_kXU - I no longer spend money on oiled air filters, they are bad.

Most people don't realize but the stock air intake is a cold air intake.
