Is a 3.5 a Better Engine than a 3.7?

I've had several retired squad cars over the years and they all worked out well. I started looking for a late-model Taurus PI on the municipal auction circuit and when I found out about the water pump issue on the 3.7's I decided to look at other cars. Lately, I've seen some Taurus PI's with 3.5 engines. Are those better engines than the 3.7? If they are, I'll consider Taurus's again.Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks,
Harold

Watch for leaks around the top of the engine. That's the only trend I noticed that was tied to water pump failure.

3.7 is better IMO

same engine, same water pump, same potential for failure

Both engines having the same issues is what concerns me. It's really a shame that they are designed to fail in this way.
