Has Anyone Recreated the Factory Center Console?
Has Anyone Recreated the Factory Center Console?
Hello, I was looking to see if anyone on here has had success recreating the factory center console for their PI. Wanted to see how feasible, economic, and difficulty of the entire job. Thanks

Re: Has Anyone Recreated the Factory Center Console?
It’s very easy. Only hard part is finding a good condition donor. I wound up buying new factory cup holder panels cause the donor one I picked up had scuffed up surfaces. In addition to finding a good one, you need wire it if you want the ambient lighting and the 12v plug. You also need to buy Ford part number DG1Z-5404608-JA to fill the gap you see in mine where the 12v plug should be (haven’t bought it yet). The PI ac/radio control is a little shorter than a civilian Taurus. So only that part number can fill that gap.

Almost forgot. You need to make sure you get the mounting brackets for the console. There are a total of three brackets but you only need the front and back brackets, not the middle one.

More specifically, can you take an SE, SEL, or SHO center console and reconfigure it to a PI console as shown in this photo?

Yes, you just need to get those cup holders and dash pieces in that photo. They are all interchangeable. Unfortunately I’m not familiar with those part numbers but I’m sure your local Ford parts department will help you with that.

Going the other direction here - Has anyone retrofitted a civilian Taurus with the PIS console/steering column, dash bits? I'm a volunteer fire/EMS officer and have a 2013 SEL with nowhere to put any equipment.

Might be easier to use a portable radio and a hand-held siren/lights controller.MagnumConstellation wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 12:47 amGoing the other direction here - Has anyone retrofitted a civilian Taurus with the PIS console/steering column, dash bits? I agree with this, if you need just the lights, siren as well as the radio, install the radio in the arm-rest center console, and then get a siren controller, wire it to a set of small rocker switches, same thing for the lighting. Detective units in my area utilize it this way, regardless of the police package with civilian RFTR look package.
