Rear seat sits high?
Rear seat sits high?
I noticed the rear seat cushion sits noticeably high. Is there a way to make it lower?

Re: Rear seat sits high?
is it the factory cloth/vinyl seat or an aftermarket one?
if it's oem it could be that the seat was removed and just isn't wasn't "re-seated" properly.
if you lift up the back seat, you'll find that to accommodate the rear end collision bracing the foam on the bottom of the seat has been cut to allow the seat to fit over the steel cross members.
it could also be that the seat you have doesn't have the foam trimmed to fit.

I'll have to check tomorrow. I know my PI has an administrative package with factory center console and carpet. So I assume it's a factory seat correct to the car

Re: Rear seat sits high?
My car was like that too when I got it from the auction. The foam cushion under the rear seat has "channels" carved into it to fit over the crash bars under the seat. Apparently before they sent my car to auction, they removed the back seat-bottom and then reinstalled it without taking the time to fit the channels in the foam around the crash bars. So the seat-bottom foam was sitting on top of the crash bars rather than sitting around the crash bars. Pull up the seat-bottom to check it out. You'll see what we're talking about...

Re: Rear seat sits high?
So I just need to carve out the foam to accommodate the crash bar? Seems easy enough
Re: Rear seat sits high?
I found this seat on Ebay. I wonder if I have those channels cut out. Could the rear support be removed to remedy the seat height?

Re: Rear seat sits high?
so - have you checked the bottom of your seat or not? it's not clear whether you have or not.
yes, you can remove the cross bracing - but that reduces your rear end collision impact from 75mph to 55mph which makes it just a "civilian" car in terms of rear crash worthiness.
some folks here have done it and you can search the threads for it under rear seat.
as far as carving out the channels - easiest thing to do is trace an existing seat and transfer that tracing to the bottom of your seat if it isn't cut out.
you can use an exacto knife or get fancy and use a foam cutting knife.

I have not checked yet. Been preoccupied lately. It is a cloth seat. I'll check tomorrow night. Is it common for the foam not to be trimmed for the reinforcement?

Re: Rear seat sits high?
if it's an original PI seat, it will be trimmed. if it isn't - odds are no.
billross is on point tho - before the cars go to auction they get de-po-po'd, as in all the emergency equipment gets stripped. taking the back seat out or removing the fiberglass one and putting the original back in happens. if it had an original cloth or vinyl seat it gets removed to make sure no contraband or weapons are left behind.

Re: Rear seat sits high?
So my seat is factory and it does have the channels cut out to accommodate the brace. I made sure it's in correctly and it still seems high. Maybe it's just me.
