This was discussed in other trunk button threads. You have a later model year, right? The earlier ones didn't have the 2nd trunk button near the map lights. Considering that most PD's disabled the main trunk button, it would be safe to assume Ford installed the 2nd button near the map light as a replacement that wouldn't get accidentally pressed, unlike the main button. You said it doesn't work if the main button is unplugged... they could be tied together in series or something. You may have to do some basic rewiring if you want to disable one button and keep the other one working. I don't have the 2nd trunk button in my 2015, so I can't say.
