New to me 2014 Taurus PI. What should I watch out for?
Hello all, I am new to the forum and new to the world of used PI vehicles. Saturday I will be going from home (Green Bay) to Chicago to pick up a 2014 Taurus PI AWD with the 3.7 motor with 67,xxx miles on her. I test drove it yesterday and looked her over. Shifts smooth and engine sounds good to my ears. According to the maintenance records it had the water pump replaced at a ford dealership at 58,607 miles, so in theory the main issue of the 3.7 water pump shouldn't bother me for a while. Also had a canister purge valve replaced in 2017. Anything else you guys can recommend I look at before I seal the deal? Attached is a link to the car I am purchasing for those who care to look. She has a little hood damage but I negotiated the price down and will be fixing it at work (I work at a Ford collision center). Thanks in advance!

Re: New to me 2014 Taurus PI. What should I watch out for?
Welcome to the forum! It looks like a great vehicle. I did note that the Police interceptor badge is on the trunk lid so you should check to make sure your local POPO's don't have an issue with the trunk badge.
Where I live (Canada) they have specific legislation that states; marked in a manner which might indicate that it was being operated by a peace officer or was the property of a police force. So where I live it's a no-no.
What should you watch for? I don't know about other folks on the forum but it's almost comical the way people drive around you. Enjoy the car, they're well built, a lot of fun to drive, and are far more robust than their civilian counterparts.

Thanks! I will be sure to check up on my local legislation, did not even think about that. Thank you for the input! I've been eyeing a Taurus PI for a few years now, I totaled my truck last week and with my insurance pay out I am not able to find a comparable truck for the price BUT I was able to afford this PI. Definitely seems like a fun car.

Re: New to me 2014 Taurus PI. What should I watch out for?
"Police Interceptor" is the model of the car, so having that badge on the back shouldn't be a problem. Of course I can't speak for Canadian laws, but if an American cop pulls you over for the stock PI badge then he's just being an a$#. The lettering is small enough so that there's no way someone could be confused that you're a real cop.
Anyway, back to the topic. Change your PTU and RDU fluid if it hasn't already been done. If you have access to the full service history of the car, that is super helpful. Have the suspension and driveline inspected by a mechanic. These cars get driven hard, so wheel bearings, ball joints, etc can go out.

Thanks for the input guys. I will be sure the change all the gear oil in the car. As for wanting a charger, it had crossed my mind... I test drove one with the hemi. Put my wife's 2015 SXT Ralley to shame but alas, she was out of my price range.

This model doesn't look like it has bluetooth and for that price they should be including a stock centre console imo

Yacoub614, for what its worth I talked them down a grand. Lpowilliams I looked all over for a pursuit within a 250 mile radius in my price range but came up short. The 3.7 will have to do, she seems plenty peppy for my liking. What exactly am I looking for under the seat?

That's where I bought my 13 fpis EB admin package. Great guys there, Ted helped me and I got a great deal. You can also check out asia motors, there about 30 mins from chicago motors and have a good variety and pricing

Ted is also who I am working with. Super nice guy. Seems pretty knowledgeable about most police vehicles.

Re: New to me 2014 Taurus PI. What should I watch out for?
Thanks but I'm happy with this Taurus. It checks off all my boxes (AWD, lowish miles for whatever thats worth on a pi, over 300 hp, ok gas mileage). Plus with me working at a Ford shop parts and labor for the Taurus should be nice and cheap for me. I would LOVE a charger with the hemi as a fun beat the heck out of car but the Taurus is better suited as a fun daily driver for me. Thanks for the input!

Agreed. I went through the same thing and I settle down with my ecoboost admin.

The master 5 year plan is to drive the Taurus until my small loan on her is paid off, then buy a different daily driver so I can mod the hell out of the Taurus. At least in a perfect world that's what'll happen.

Prices were going to creep up when there are videos on Youtube cropping up touting the FPIS/FPIU are one of the best dollar to performance buy.

i've been watching the auction prices and individuals and i guess dealers are driving up the prices to like $4-6k.crownedking wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 5:46 pmpeople buying from these shitty dealers are raising the prices for everyone.
even higher on the wrecked utilities.
saw one 2017 salvage title utility on Copart went for like $10k whole side was caved it. either junkyards are running up the prices or the smaller township PDs are.

What would happen if I drove mine to Canada with grille lights, deck lights, side and mirror strobes, spot light, antenna, etc.?
