As much as I hated to do it my 2006 Five Hundred Limited AWD is gone :(
Bought it used in 2008 with 16k on it and short of front rotors/pads,rear calipers/pads and 3 sets of tires: that’s all I ever had to do to it. At 96k it needed front struts, new a/c compressor but the thing that made the decision to move on was rust in the doglegs on both quarter panels. It was just starting to bubble. If the rust was not starting I would have gladly put the money into it.
I felt like I was sitting in a recliner in my living room when I drove that car. Finding a replacement was tough but the closest thing I found to feel somewhat the Five Hundred did was a 2017 Ford Edge Titanium. I just hope it treats me as well as the Five Hundred did.

I know what you mean. My 2005 has a huge hole on the right side and the left side has bubbled and will have a hole soon. I believe the problem was due to bad prep work, since mine bubbled between the metal and the paint. Oh well. I have 319k onine now and will continue running it until it dies or a deer kills it.

I think water/dirt is able to get between the the qtr panel and outer wheelhouse. It takes a while but corrosion starts from the inside out.
