2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
Hello all, just picked up this beauty that I will be getting back on the road hopefully. I got it as a salvage, but will try to get rebranded as a R-title since it only has 28K on it. Gonna be doing some lurking and posting on this project. Couple things I am already running into are parts sourcing and compatibility. I am gathering that I am good to source parts from any 13-18 Taurus? Then there is the air bag deployment, I am just going to get a driver air bag from ebay, but is there anyone that can reprogram the restraint control module (or suggestions)?
I will be needing the both headlights, radiator support, radiator, a/c condenser, bumper bar, bumper, grill, drivers air bag, passenger side foot scuff trim. I don't have anything for a center console either right now. So if anyone has any of these that they would like to part with please let me know.

Re: 2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
yes any parts from a 13-18 should fit. I put a 3.7 in place of a 3.5 due to a failed water pump. so even most engine parts they say are not compatible like valve covers they say are different worked fine for me.
check car-part.com should be able to easily find interceptor parts. There are lots here in the midwest.

My airbags reset my srs module for my ford truck and you just have to replace the airbags themselves and the front crash sensors.

Re: 2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
If the airbag blew, most likely so did the seatbelt pretensioner.
Re: 2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
I have a similar project but mine is hit harder. My seat belt won't retract. I am guessing the fix is to buy a new belt?
Edit - I see online there are places that rebuild them.

Re: 2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
Well I thought I was going to be able to take this in this coming week for the "enhanced PA inspection", but my lights that I got were all broken when UPS dropped them off. I actually got my belt and pretensioner from a salvage yard in NY. It was cheaper than getting mine rebuilt. I also found out that my steering column sensor needs to be replaced. On top of that my BCM is now showing "full and locked" code. Not sure if that will prevent the air bag light from going off or not.
Re: 2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
I have not ordered anything for mine yet. It will need a drivers seatbelt, airbag, sensor and clock-spring. There are some questionable (possibly Chinese) clock springs on e-bay so I need to do a bit more research before purchasing these parts.
I think the air-bag, core support and radiator from a 2010 and up will work but the hood, lights, bumper, and grill need to be 13 and up. There are many options on car-part for headlights....I think any halogen will work, but I'm not sure.
Also.... I saw this service for reseting the crash sensor. https://www.myairbags.com/ford-rcm-airbag-module-reset/

Re:SRS Airbag DTC Codes
The list of SRS Airbag DTC Codes on the myairbags site is long. I worry about paying for a reset and then faulting it out because a sensor or something is not right,
Re: 2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
I am not 100% sure about the clock spring on mine needing to be replaced so I just got new airbag plugs to install with the new airbag.
I will probably be using myairbags or safety restore if I need to get the rcm programmed. I think if a dtc code pops up after they reprogram you will still be able to clear it once the bad part is taken care of. I am pretty sure it only becomes locked when in an accident, but I could be wrong too.
All I need now is my passenger side light and steering column sensor then I should be ready for inspection... hopefully

Re: 2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
Anybody rebuilding a car is assumed to have a reasonably advanced code reader to do airbag and abs codes, or should get one. Or at least get Forscan if working on Ford products.
module reset and Forscan
Forscan my not work for this...I found this post. https://www.forscan.org/forum/viewtopic ... 2&start=10
Re: 2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
Well sure, no scan tool will erase crash data. I was referring to reading and clearing codes that come up when rebuilding a car.
Re: 2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
Here is a picture of my 2015 PI with 37,000 miles. It is only my third wrecked car rebuild. The other 2 did not have any deployed airbags so this portion of the repair will be new to me.
Re: 2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
That looks similar to the damage that I had...except for the hood.
I finally got my steering column sensor installed and cleared all my codes. Everything is now good except I still got the B1193 Crash event storage full and locked. Will be needing to send the RCM out for a reprogramming. This is my first vehicle to try a get a rebuilt title for. All my other projects had clean titles to start with.

Re: 2014 Taurus Interceptor 3.7
This one came with a clean title. Cal State universities are self insured and do not brand the title salvaged when selling. I rebuilt a Jeep Wrangler and a Mercedes that came with salvage title. For those two I had to get a brake and light check in addition to the normal smog check.
