Sent a letter to Ford consumer relations about water pump

I have a 2015 SEL with 42k so I'm getting to worry about the water pump issue. I have read somewhere, I don't remember where, that the 2015 3.5L Ti-VCT is unaffected by this fatal design flaw. Frustrated, I composed a paper letter to Ford Consumer Relations to get a direct answer about this. It's been over a month and I have received no response. Silence speaks volumes doesn't it?

Not really - I'd be more surprised if they responded to every inquiry that was received.

Why spend time worrying? You're now upset with Ford over a problem your car hasn't experienced!? What's the failure rate per unit? All mfr's accept a certain failure rate per unit and my experience is that it must be small (I'm always looking for explorers/taurus with blown TiVCTs cause we can drop a donor engine in for beer money and I haven't found any within 500 miles). I don't disagree that it's a poor design, though - absolutely is.

If you're aware of the potential issue, the repair cost if failure is realized, and you're experiencing anxiety you've got a number of options: sell the car before anything goes wrong; purchase an extended warranty before anything goes wrong; pick up a donor motor for $300 and be ready for the weekend worth of work to change it out. Note: if you get rid of the taurus don't buy a vehicle with an interference engine, you'll live in a constant state of fear :lol:

I just traded in a 2015 SEL AWD and got a 2018. I put 115,000 miles on the 2015 in 2.5 years with not one mechanical issue. I changed the fluids, tires and brakes once. It ran flawlessly and never gave me any problems. I drive in temperatures both in the teens in the Winter and 115 plus in the Summer.

I also had a 2012 before and put 90,000 trouble free miles it it also.

I would try not to worry about it.

My advice is to buy a vehicle without the self-destructing engine / water pump configuration. I did, and it's not a Ford ;)

Oops, did I say that out loud? Hey I still have my F-150. It's old enough it doesn't have the horrible 3 valve spark plugs breaking off in the thread and failing VCT solenoid problems. I still have two Fords in fact. But neither are my reliable daily driver.

I need a sport sedan as one of my vehicles and only Ford and Dodge make one. Before the Taurus redesign, the days of renaming a 500 as a Taurus, I left the Ford reservation for the first time. I hated the 500 and the Charger was everything I wanted. It was RWD, easy enter and exit, roomy, great handling with IRS, all kinds of leg room and comfortable to drive very long distance as I do often. Not to mention, the Charger is a damn good looking car. Unfortunately, the Charger spent as much time in my driveway as it did back at the dealer for warranty repairs.......a lot of them.

When Ford redesigned the Taurus, I bit and loved the car except the loss of legroom vs. the Charger. I had no idea of the issues with the internal water pump catastrophes until I had two of those problems in my garage. So here I am.
