AC clutch not engaging

Post by Nhyrum » Sat Jul 28, 2018 1:18 pm

Hello,

I was given a 96 Taurus wagon, 3.0 ohv(vulcan?) v6 that had a blown AC compressor. About a year ago, I replaced the compressor(new), dryer assembly and low side pressure switch. Clutch never engaged, car running, empty system, AC on high, slowly adding refrigerant. (had dryer house routed wrong, kinked) today, installed another, new, dryer and orifice tube, which had large chunks of crap(metal/plastic, not gunky build up from moisture) on it. Still, clutch wouldn't engage. I get radiator fans coming on.

I think my next move is the "binary switch" that's right on the side ish of the compressor. Should I replace that whole assembly that comes off the compressor, seeing as there was large chunks of crap in the system? Should I do the evaporator or whatever is the AC equivalent of the heater core?

The system does hold pressure and vacuum for a few hours(meaning the reading doesn't change over a few hours)
