Spurious Check Engine Light?

Post by BobM » Mon Apr 08, 2019 11:50 am

The Check Engine light in my 2005 Five Hundred came on again today. No codes, no pending codes, everything is running just like it is supposed to. I can't find anything wrong. I reset the light and it remains off.

This has happened three or four times in the past 6-7 months. In each case, I can find nothing wrong, I reset the light and it stays off for a couple of months, only to illuminate again for no apparent reason.

I'm inclined to think that this is just a false indication, but it is annoying.

Does anyone have any ideas??

If the light is on, codes are set. I would try another code scanner.

FYI clearing the codes isn't actually fixing anything (even temporarily) BTW, it merely resets the monitors so if nothing is fixed it is expected the check engine light will return after the monitors are complete.
