2015 - Possible Water Pump Issue

Post by BlackTaurusJesus » Tue May 07, 2019 5:03 pm

Noticed the reservoir was low and anti-freeze on the cross bars as well as on the bottom of the alternator. Assuming it's the water pump.

1) Where is the weep hole again?

2) Anyone with experience with any metro area (MN) dealerships replacing them?

2015 PI 3.7 AWD

Thanks in advance.

Yep, it's the pump. Figure $1400 to $1800 for the dealer to do, about 60 bucks if you do it yourself.
No local shop wanted to touch mine, so I HAD to take it to the dealer. Don't ignore this, or you will be needing a new engine when that pump starts leaking internally and dumps coolant in your engine.

Thanks, hoping I caught it soon enough. Going to start calling around, grab a few estimates and go from there. It's parked for now and will trailer it if I decide to take it somewhere.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

Good plan! Did you check the oil to see if it looks like milkshake?

Oil looks good; not milky at all.

You probably caught it in time then, if your oil is good you will likely be able to save it.

Any recommendations for how to videos/walk through articles? I have found some 2013 replacements on youtube, can I assume the 2015 would be the same?

Quick update just as an FYI:

Got 4 estimates, I leave out the names for now.
Dealer 1: $2500
Dealer 2: $3000
Non Dealer 1: $2000
Non Dealer 2: $1700 - $1800

With this in mind, I am thinking of doing it my self.

I have one other question, if I just wanted to swap motors, could I take a 3.7 from a same year Explorer Interceptor and it would fit?

Thinking to have a spare motor isn't a bad thing.
